Capture the moment
MB is just loving her soccer team. I am really happy we decided to ease into it. Her team only meets one hour on Saturday. 40 min of practice and drills and then a 20min game. It is just what she needs to learn the basics, build confidence, and score a few little goals. It also is great for our schedule. With gymnastics, swimming, and girls scouts, I was ready for the full time commitment of 2 practices a week and Saturday games. We are going to have to drop one other sport when we go to that.
This week MB won the sportsmanship award for the week. She was so excited as you can tell from the photo!!!
TB and I were excited too…finally the temps were below 100 degrees. We didn’t get eaten by fire ants watching the practice and our new breathable REI chairs arrived…so when I got up to cheer I didn’t have what can only be summarized as soggy pants. Much to TB’s disappointment he will have to find something else to tease me about…these chairs rock! I am looking forward to the rest of the season which much cooler weather.
I just love this photo too….it took me a while at looking at it to realize what it was. It’s the blue skies. The skies in AZ are so bright and so blue and it is like this almost every day. I love it!!!!! Thinking about the doom and gloom about to hit Syracuse I am so excited to be where we are for the winter. I have already forgotten the miserable heat of August.Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( 2 so far )
Well we have another hit. This girl just loves it all. We are going to have to start being pickier…I think we have hit our limit on activities.
So we headed out this weekend for MB’s first soccer practice and game of the season. It was 110 degrees and hot. TB and I managed to sweat more than you can imagine and end up with our first burn of the season, yes right when summer is over.
We love the soccer club though. The coach was great, really worked the kids with drills and fundamentals. Plenty of water breaks. Which were so cute. TB would hold up the towel and I would hold up the water- MB would run to us and grab the towel as she ran around our chairs and come up on the other side to get the water. She was in full spirit of the game.
After about 40min of practice they started their game. No goalies for this league and they did 6 on 6 and then 4 on 4 and 3 on 3. MB had the ringer on her team and he quickly scored the first goal. TB and I were both really surprised to see out right in the middle of the action MB was. She was right in their pushing and kicking and going after the ball.
She scored the 2nd goal and it was her first. Talk about a confidence builder. She was so bumped. I didn’t manage to get any photos but it was too cute to see the kids high fiving each other and really being supportive. Loved it.
The white team (MB’s team) ended up wining 5-0 and she loved it all.
Now TB and I have gotten some more breathable chairs in hopes that will keep the sweat down next weekend….that and hopefully temps below the 100’s.
Well the day has finally arrived.
As we waited for MB to get off the bus…the kids came running off saying “guess who lost a tooth, guess who lost a tooth”
Last off was a grinning MB holding her little tooth in an orange treasure chest.
It had just started wiggling this weekend but I thought we had a little ways to go, but today was the day.
We have lost our first tooth.
The house was in a complete tizzy.
Fortunately Nana had sent a tooth fairy pillow and book in her Kinder care pack. So we were prepared.
We read the story and it was so cute…the little girl had so many questions about fairies and what happened with the tooth. MB listened intently and when we finished said I hope my tooth gets used for the throne.
As we prepared for bed, MB brushed her tooth really well so it would be good and clean for the tooth fairy. She put in the pillow and hung it on the door. I loved our conversation about how the tooth fairy knew when MB was asleep, her wings tingled :).
She went right out and the tooth fairy went to work. Writing a letter, getting a new toothbrush and toothpaste and finding the right amount of money for the 1st tooth.
This morning all MB talked about was when she was going to lose her 2nd. While I am just thankful it is a lower tooth so we might have a few more months of photos with teethy grins :)….we have family photos in 2 months!Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( 2 so far )
So this week at school it was color week. Everyday a different color and so we had to coordinate the wardrobe.
It wasn’t as hard as I thought. We even came up with coffee beans to send in for Brown day!
So not as worried about next week as the colors continue.
Then as I went for my run this morning…a lovely 2.8 miles in below 90 degree weather, which is a real treat after 114 degree temps I saw this great rainbow to wrap up our color week. Sent it to Mr. Kinder for sharing on the smart board. Love email..got a response before we even sent MB off to the bus-stop!
Happy to have the whole clan back under one roof and looking forward to the weekend!Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( None so far )
Thanks to AZ on the Rocks (a great indoor climbing place with the best summer/spring camp according to MB!) we got 3 tickets to the Diamondback game this past weekend.
Everyone was excited to get out and get in one last game, before we begin the countdown to FOOTBALL season. There are 2 adults in this house that are ready for some football.
5 and 3/4 (as MB tells it) is a great age for going to games. She is interested in learning about the sport. What base are they on? How fast does he pitch? what is the score? who is hitting? Lots of lots of questions…but she is learning and remembering the answers so it is all good.
Even more fun is the big screen and the cheers. She doesn’t miss a clapping opportunity and would laugh at me if I did. We got a big kick out of the kiss cam, though she didn’t want us to kiss if they got us on…”that would be embarrassing”. Ahh I thought I had a few more years before I started to embarrass her, guess not.
Of course a trip to the ballpark wasn’t complete without a treat. Surprisingly, she skipped ice cream this time for shaved ice and after about 10min of re-arranging herself in her seat she got the perfect position for eating shaved ice and TB an I were blessed with 20min of no chatter….at least not from our little dugout.
Winners all around…and the Diamondbacks too! The show wasn’t over yet…the ride home we got to see another amazing monsoon lightening storm…they just keep getting better.Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( 2 so far )
Well thanks to a great Groupon deal I signed up MB for her first horseback riding lesson at Bein Performance Horses.
What a treat!!! It was a 90min lesson and I was really surprised and excited to see that the lesson included taking care of the horse. Everything from getting it from the stable, grooming it, preparing the hooves, and on and on! MB got a horse names Brownie..very fitting and he was a perfect little BIG horse. MB learned all the parts of the horse and all the names of the brushes. She did great listening and only a couple times had to be reminded not to go around the back of the horse!
We took the lesson early to avoid the heat…but it was still a hot morning. Not that she would care…she wanted to stay and ride another horse after we done…couldn’t get enough. The trainers were just awesome and patient and I loved the system of teaching balance and comfort with the horse. She rode bareback and had to do lots of exercises working on her balance. She did great! Just another cool thing AZ has to offer.
The whole ride home she kept asking if she could go back tomorrow….I wonder how long we will hold out 🙂
I got the perfect shirt from Smitten & Company I can’t wait to get another one for Halloween…and this one is going to last us quite a few more lessons. Love it….and of course it is orange!Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( 2 so far )
It was starting to be such a wonderful relaxing evening.
We had just gotten back from gymnastics class where MB was so proud she did a great handstand for the first time.
I opened up the fridge to see that someone had returned the soy sauce empty. TB couldn’t think Asian food without soy sauce so he offered to go to the store. MB joined as well…”I go with TB I can get treats”.
So I had the house quiet as I prepared egg rolls and beef and broccoli. Packed up MB’s lunch for tomorrow…since we rushed out for gymnastics. And cleaned up around the house. Getting ahead of the game for the evening.
Dinner was ready as they pulled in the door and it was good. MB has decided she likes egg rolls and love the sweet and sour sauce..even mixed it with her rice like TB does…yet he uses hot sauce.
Meanwhile TB is a little pre-occupied and keeps going to check out the front window. We are having our first monsoon so I asssumed that was what it was. After about the 3rd time he got up I asked…he said we had an animal outside in whispered tones that he was checking on. We finished our dinner and I went to peek.
A nice little rattlesnake. What I failed to notice was what it was eating…and that it wasn’t just one snake but another snake was there as well. Oh boy.
So I go back to cleaning and getting MB ready for bed. TB kept on an eye on things up front, called into our native neighbor, and had his iPad in hand doing some searches.
After MB gets out of the shower the commotion as grown. I finally share that we have a rattlesnake on our front door. You would of thought I said Santa was outside. She ran with glee to check it out. Not only did she find the snake but also about 3 neighbors and 3 neighborhood kids…all checking out the activity. TB had read that you can call the fireman to remove it if they are on your front door step. So the fireman arrived and carried it away. He also shared with MB the differences between the 2 kinds of snake- rattler=bad, bull=good.
The fireman told MB that he had a bull snake as a pet when he was a kid. Guess who wants a new pet???
Not going to happen.
So now it is calm….I am waiting for pictures from the neighbor.
And I will be checking twice when we go out to catch the bus in the morning.
Just when I thought it was going to be a quiet night at home.
Worst of all I missed the first monsoon of the season for us…and didn’t even get to see the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Though MB did and told me they didn’t go after the pot of Gold cause they didn’t want to be late for dinner. Should I tell her it would of been ok if she brought back gold???Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( None so far )
So we had planned a weekend getaway to visit friends. Something we were all looking forward to. MB to make new friends, TB and I to get away from work and home projects and just enjoy the weekend.
It was a hot week for us in Scottsdale 110 degrees most days so in my mind I was looking forward to going to Lake Havasu for some cooler weather. Right, cause Lake means cool doesn’t it? Well in my warped mind it did. That was too Thursday night when TB and I looked at the temps and I saw that it was 10 degrees hotter in Havasu. WHAT??????
Turns out its more in the desert than we are. Whoops.
Oh well…even turning up the heat won’t get this girl down.
We had a great time…bowling, playing in the pool, visiting, and just being. It felt so good not to have anything to do, nowhere to be, and just let the weekend happen.
Now refreshed and ready for the week ahead…well sorta 🙂Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( 6 so far )
Well its official. We are now in school. Kindergarten has begun.
A few things I learned today.
1) A million parents will go the classroom on the first day. Cameras, video, and tears. The principal will have to get them all the leave by saying class is starting. However, if you happen to get to see your little one sitting in their chair at their desk in the big classroom. You will cry. I managed the bus stop ok but the little stop in the classroom. The sweet smile when she saw us there, even though it wasn’t expected. It made me realize that she was a big girl now.
2. I am lucky to be sharing this with someone who is just as caught up in the moment as me. I wasn’t the one doing drive-bys at the school in hopes of seeing MB on the playground. Each time he made my heart swell just a little bit bigger.
3. The little things don’t go un-noticed. I put a little I love you note in MB’s lunch box and while she didn’t say anything at first after being home for a while she says to me “someone put a little note in my lunchbox”, “who did that?”, “you did and it was really sweet”. Enter hug and a few more tears.
4. Expect some independence with what they eat. We had to pack lunch and a snack. When I asked what she ate for her snack turns out she ate her PB&J for the snack and ate the carrots, grapes, cheese as lunch.
5. There is no better feeling then every time you tell someone who MB’s teacher is they squeal with delight and tell you how much you will love him. I heard so many wonderful things about Mr. Kindergarten that I can’t wait to see him live in action.
6. That even if your little one goes to school for years it won’t be the same as their first day of kindergarten. I have not been a SAHM so MB has always been in pre-school. We have done drop off and pick up for years. Yet today it was different. I paced, I could never fully focus and constantly was waiting for her to come home off the school bus. There is no preparation for when they really head off to school.
7. That I have wonderful neighbors. From the first greeting of the day telling MB she looked great for her big day, to the bus stop chatter, to the mom who brought popsicles for all the kids when they got off the bus, till the last neighbor who checked in to see how the day was — and all the other’s that followed it on facebook. It takes a village and I am loving our village.
8. Life is good and I officially have a Kindergartner.Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( 6 so far )
