Yes it has been an orange and pink explosion in the house for the past few weeks and it just keeps getting larger as we get closer to the big event. MB’s party is only 4 days away. My mom has been in town helping with the final touches which is great. Some where in the planning she offered to make the tissue poms as she remembered making them as a girl scout.
Well she is regretting that offer…I got the tissue paper and just never even started to try one as I figured she would want to do them herself. Well guess they aren’t as easy as she remembers. They have been the task she avoids the most…but we have finished 3 big ones and a little one…I think that will be it for the tissue poms. The ones she did look great…the place is going to be a pink and orange palace for sure.
Stay tuned for more party photos…next up is making the photo booth and props for the girls to show off their glammed up looks.
Ok the final 2 weeks. I have the RSVPs in…we have 14 little girls coming. Wow!!! Glad I have help coming in!
I got my first set of printables from Chickabug!
I know I have said this before but what a dream to work with. The invites were a big success and I love how everything else is turning out. MB is going to just love it. I am doing a lot of prep this week while she is visiting her dad for fall break. I can’t wait to see her face when she gets home and see’s all the things coming together.
I also have found the job for TB. We are going to do a photo booth. With all the spa stuff going on and it being a slumber party…I figured dress up fits right along with that and my little MB is such a camera ham I know the girls will love dressing up with more accessories and posing for the camera man!
I didn’t get out the good camera for a quick shot….but here is a sneak peak a the cuteness!
Next stop is the dollar store for hopefully a cute little tote for the favors and then candy store for finding pink and orange goodies for the candy bar!Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( None so far )
MB got to choose the dinner and movie for the evening. Instead of going with the wolf cartoon I was happy to see her choose Secretariat. We are still all about horses in the house…more riding lessons are in the works.
The movie was packed and in MB’s words “wow there are a lot of grandma and grandpa’s here”
I know it has gotten mixed reviews but we enjoyed it. During the races you are on the edge of your seat rooting on Big Red. I loved having MB on my lap clapping and getting so excited for Big Red. Tooo cute.
However I wasn’t expecting the underlying storyline in the movie and it was a good one. Diane Lane as Penny Chenery was great. A daughter, wife, and mother that has to make some difficult choices. She balances the farm and her family in 2 different states. She misses some events in her kid’s lives due to “work” and has those meltdown moments like we all do.
Her husband is not the most understanding at times and her “work” looks like it might put her marriage on the line as well as her kids….the balancing act all working moms have to deal with when the pendulum swings a little more on the work side.
Yet without giving away too much of the movie…there is a moment. A moment when the daughters are so proud of their mom. So proud she had a passion and a dream and she made it happen. This moment is worth the entire movie. The daughters recognize all their mother sacrified and love her even more for it. The husband witnesses this and realizes he too had been blind to what lessons were being tought- what his wife by living and doing had taught their family. This is a story for every working mom out there (and even those that don’t). We may think we don’t do enough, we aren’t there enough, but the truth is our children learn just as much from us when we are there as when we aren’t. They learn by seeing who we are. What we believe. What we succeed in.
I want my daughter to have the same realization that those daughters did. That she can do anything she wants to. She should follow her passion. She should take risks she believes in. And you can have it all. The wonderful family, great friends around the world, all while making your dreams come true no matter who or what might try to stand in your way.Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( None so far )
MB is just loving her soccer team. I am really happy we decided to ease into it. Her team only meets one hour on Saturday. 40 min of practice and drills and then a 20min game. It is just what she needs to learn the basics, build confidence, and score a few little goals. It also is great for our schedule. With gymnastics, swimming, and girls scouts, I was ready for the full time commitment of 2 practices a week and Saturday games. We are going to have to drop one other sport when we go to that.
This week MB won the sportsmanship award for the week. She was so excited as you can tell from the photo!!!
TB and I were excited too…finally the temps were below 100 degrees. We didn’t get eaten by fire ants watching the practice and our new breathable REI chairs arrived…so when I got up to cheer I didn’t have what can only be summarized as soggy pants. Much to TB’s disappointment he will have to find something else to tease me about…these chairs rock! I am looking forward to the rest of the season which much cooler weather.
I just love this photo too….it took me a while at looking at it to realize what it was. It’s the blue skies. The skies in AZ are so bright and so blue and it is like this almost every day. I love it!!!!! Thinking about the doom and gloom about to hit Syracuse I am so excited to be where we are for the winter. I have already forgotten the miserable heat of August.Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( 2 so far )
Let the party planning begin. I can’t help but share the cutest invites ever. I worked with Chickabug on the custom design and she rocks as usual!
We are doing a daytime slumber/spa party and it is the funniest party I have ever planned. We are doing orange, MB’s favorite color with pink as well to make sure it is super girly.
Ok that it is on previews….the rest I will hold till the party is over!Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( 2 so far )
Well the search is over.
As just after 3 weeks lunches are getting boring I have been on the lookout for a bento box so I could start getting a little more creative. And have less food come home uneaten. After searching Target, Container Store, and on and on I happened upon the prefect items at TJ Max.
We were ready for our first bento. It was a hit and this was just with leftovers. I am excited too.
MB is such an eat with your fingers girl. She is going to eat so much better this way. For example. I set out grapes, cut up strawberries she digs in. I cut up a chicken breast into bite size pieces she devours the whole thing. I leave it for her to cut herself she eats about half. Maybe it is lazy, or probably just distraction. Yet I know the bite size will be a success for the year ahead.
I also found a great blog, Bento Lunch. Everyday they post a new creation. After a few days of seeing the cute cut-out cheese slices I think I am going to have to start looking for cookie cutters. Love it.
This bento is not fancy, but it was our first! So much better than the lunchables she is always begging for too!
Anyone else bento box? What are your favorite things to put in the lunch box? Always looking for some new healthy and fun ideas!Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( 4 so far )

Well thanks to a great Groupon deal I signed up MB for her first horseback riding lesson at Bein Performance Horses.
What a treat!!! It was a 90min lesson and I was really surprised and excited to see that the lesson included taking care of the horse. Everything from getting it from the stable, grooming it, preparing the hooves, and on and on! MB got a horse names Brownie..very fitting and he was a perfect little BIG horse. MB learned all the parts of the horse and all the names of the brushes. She did great listening and only a couple times had to be reminded not to go around the back of the horse!
We took the lesson early to avoid the heat…but it was still a hot morning. Not that she would care…she wanted to stay and ride another horse after we done…couldn’t get enough. The trainers were just awesome and patient and I loved the system of teaching balance and comfort with the horse. She rode bareback and had to do lots of exercises working on her balance. She did great! Just another cool thing AZ has to offer.
The whole ride home she kept asking if she could go back tomorrow….I wonder how long we will hold out 🙂
I got the perfect shirt from Smitten & Company I can’t wait to get another one for Halloween…and this one is going to last us quite a few more lessons. Love it….and of course it is orange!Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( 2 so far )
MB and I are well underway in planning her upcoming birthday (yes in October). In my evenings while watching big brother I have searched the web for inspirations and ideas. It’s a spa/daytime slumber party and of course a primary color must be orange. Such a girly request..love it!.
Just sharing a few of the gorgeous party themes/ideas I am using for inspiration! And I am so excited to be working with Chickabug again on the design!
If anyone has any fun ideas I would love to hear them!!! Though TB is probably going to go ape with all the girly-ness coming his way…so far a good sport only nixed the glitter hairspray for fear of never getting glitter out of the house.
